Alcohol limits for TVDE drivers in Portugal
A general rule remembered by another driver is not enough to answer a TVDE question. The driver category is part of the situation.
What threshold applies to TVDE?
The official ANSR table includes TVDE drivers in the special regime: a blood alcohol concentration of 0.2 g/l or above already falls within an offence. Do not confuse this with the general threshold for other drivers.
This is a legal threshold, not a safe number of drinks or permission to drink before driving. The practical safety approach is to avoid alcohol when you will drive.
Read the unit and category
In an exercise, identify whether the concentration refers to blood and which driver category is described. Notice equal to, above and below: they change the meaning of a range.
Do not convert a threshold into drinks, waiting hours or a personal sobriety prediction. An informal calculator or conversation cannot demonstrate fitness to drive. Consult the official legal information.
Study the reasoning, not just the table
Make a card with the situation, rule and explanation: TVDE driver; special regime; 0.2 g/l threshold in ANSR guidance. Explain why an answer about the general regime does not fit.
Compare differently worded questions and review negatives. If you make a mistake, record whether you confused the category, unit or condition. This builds understanding rather than recall of an answer position.
Safety belongs in recognised training
TVDE training includes legal rules, driving techniques and emergencies. Study the provider materials and treat exam preparation as part of professional responsibility.
If there is doubt about your ability to drive, do not begin the trip. Arrange a safe alternative and follow competent authorities. This article is not an individual medical or fitness assessment.
Check consequences in the current source
ANSR distinguishes offences and consequences by ranges and regimes. Use its current table for fines, driving bans and licence points rather than treating this article as a complete penalties table.
TVDE Ready supports Portuguese reading and practice. Study examples are not official exam questions, medical advice or evidence that you are fit to drive.
